Betty Andersen, MA, LLP

Betty Andersen earned her Clinical Psychology Masters Degree from Oakland University in 1979.  She brings 30 years of experience in providing therapeutic services to clients experiencing stress and a variety of life challenges.  Betty specializes in treating many conditions including anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress.  She treats adults and adolescents.

Betty utilizes a variety of clinical intervention strategies including cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). Susan Babst, MA, LLP, LPC

Susan provides confidential therapy in a comfortable setting helping to identify, understand, and deal constructively with troubling aspects of life.  Therapy guides patients towards discovering happiness, creating fulfilling relationships, improving communication skills, and increasing self-confidence.

Susan’s therapeutic style provides a supportive experience by developing a relationship based on active listening, empathy, reflective questions, education, stories, relaxation, imaging, and other proven techniques.

A background of life learning (marriage, family, and faith) as well as formal education and experience enables Susan to provide expertise in counseling daily life issues such as: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, compulsive behaviors, anger, sexual abuse, ADHD, and conflicts concerning parenting, couples, and family dynamics.

Susan earned both her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan and Masters Degree in Counseling from Oakland University with high honors.  She is licensed as a Professional Counselor and Limited Licensed Psychologist.

Kym Carlson, MA, LPC

Kym Carlson decided to pursue becoming a therapist to help improve the lives of families, children, and adolescents when she was a teenager herself.  After working with children and families in Gratiot County’s Community Mental Health’s Respite Program while studying at Alma College, Kym went on to attend Oakland University and obtained her Masters Degree in Counseling in 2008.

Kym’s clients experience an energetic, client centered, and supportive environment to comfortably develop a therapeutic relationship based on unconditional positive regard.  Kym utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques based on where each client is in his/her own personal journey, often using cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior modification, supportive therapy, and solution focused/strength based therapy.

While Kym’s passion is working with young children and adolescents, she also enjoys working with adults from all backgrounds including divorced, blended and single parent families, and those seeking counseling that respects faith-based beliefs and principles.  Areas of interest in which Kym has effectively treated clients include behavioral and school issues, ADHD, anxiety, depression, stress management, parenting, women’s issues, and life transitions. Kym is in the office Monday through Thursday and offers morning, afternoon, and evening availability.

Carol Devnani, MA, LMSW, LPC

Carol Devnani earned her masters degree from Oakland University in 1983.  She brings 26 years of experience in providing therapeutic services to clients.  The foundation of treatment is client-centered with an eclectic approach that includes cognitive behavioral techniques.  Carol specializes in treating adults, adolescents, and children with a variety of symptoms that include depression, bi-polar disorder, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, grief and loss, ADD/ADHD, and oppositional behavior.  Specific life challenges can also include divorce, emotional/physical/sexual abuse, and developmental tasks.  Carol’s philosophy in working with clients is to provide a safe comfortable environment that gives a client an opportunity to process feelings, understand underlying issues, and explore the possibility of a life that they would like to create.  Appointments are available Monday through Thursday. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, please call our Sterling Heights office at: (586) 795-0569.

Edward Kainz, MA, LPC

Mary Michaels, LMSW

Mary Michaels, LMSW earned her Masters of Social Work in 1982 from Wayne State University.  She brings over 25 years experience in providing therapeutic services to clients experiencing stress and a variety of life challenges.  Mary treats adults, families, and children age 5 and older.  She specializes in depression, women’s issues, low self-esteem, and child emotional/behavioral issues. Borhan (Ray) Rais, MSW, LMSW

Ray has nearly 30 years of experience in providing effective mental health, substance abuse, marital, and family counseling.

Ray has successfully treated individuals presenting with problems of anxiety and depression, marital, family, and interpersonal relationships.  He has extensive background in the treatment of clients with alcohol and drug use in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  Ray is competent to work with the dually disordered clients (mental health and substance abuse issues).

Ray also has 20 years of experience in Quality Improvement Coordination in a large metropolitan mental health clinic. He is a Member of the State of Michigan Fidelity Assessment Support Team (MIFAST) for the implementation and review of services to the Dual Disordered consumers. Kurt Richards, LMSW, CAAC

Kurt Richards, LMSW, CAAC earned his Masters of Social Work from Wayne State University in 2001.  He brings 13 years of experience in providing therapeutic services to clients experiencing stress and a variety of life challenges.  Kurt specializes in treating many conditions and issues including substance abuse, mental health, anxiety, depression, trauma, and family therapy.

Kurt utilizes a variety of clinical intervention strategies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, person-centered, strength focused, motivational, and psychotherapy.  His philosophy in working with clients includes helping clients understand the underlying emotional and psychological “problems” that motivate ineffective behavior and perceptions. Ed Vincent, LMSW earned his Masters in Social Work degree from Wayne State University in 1985.  He brings 25 years of experience in providing therapeutic services to children, adults, and adolescents experiencing stress and a variety of life challenges.  Ed specializes in treating many conditions and issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, family, and couple/marital therapy.
